Questions

Frequently asked

If your question is not here, the privacy notice covers what we collect and why in full.

For students and parents

Does it cost anything to look around?

No. Browsing courses and tutors needs no account, and every course lets you preview its first lessons before you sign up for anything.

I am under 18. Can I sign up?

Yes, but a parent or guardian has to agree first. When you give your date of birth we will ask for their name and email, and send them a link. Until they agree, your account is on hold and we do not use your information for anything.

Why do you need my date of birth?

Only to know whether you are a minor. Under the Data Privacy Act we cannot process a minor’s personal data without a guardian’s consent, and we cannot tell whether that applies without asking. Tutors are not asked for theirs, because there is no reason to know it.

What is the predicted score, exactly?

An estimate of how you are likely to end up in a course, based on how you have been working through it — your scores, whether they are rising or falling, how long questions take you, and how much of the material you have covered. It is shown as a range, with the reasons behind it, and it says so when there is not enough information yet.

Can the prediction be wrong?

Yes, and it will be sometimes. It describes a trend, not a verdict, and it is meant to start a conversation with your tutor while there is still time to change the outcome. If you think a prediction is wrong you can ask us what produced it.

Who can see how I am doing?

You, and the tutors who teach a course you are enrolled in. A tutor cannot see your work in someone else’s course, and no other student can see it at all.

For tutors

How do I start teaching?

Apply through Become a tutor. You can sign in and prepare material straight away, but your profile stays private and you cannot publish a course or take bookings until an administrator has reviewed your credentials.

How long does verification take?

It depends on how quickly an administrator gets to the queue. You will be emailed when a decision is made, and if something is missing we will ask for it rather than rejecting the application outright.

Do I set my own rate and hours?

Yes. You set an hourly rate and your availability, and you can stop taking new bookings at any time without your existing courses disappearing.

What do I see about my students?

For students enrolled in your courses: their progress, quiz results, which skills are weak, and their predicted outcome with the reasons behind it. Nothing about students who are not yours.

Accounts and data

Can I sign in with my school account?

Yes. Google and Microsoft sign-in both work, which covers most school-issued accounts. We will still ask for your date of birth afterwards, because a sign-in provider does not tell us how old you are.

I forgot my password.

Use the reset link on the sign-in page. We will email you a link that lasts one hour and can be used once.

Can I get a copy of my data, or have it deleted?

Yes, both. You may also ask us to correct anything that is wrong, or object to your data being used for predictions. These are your rights under Chapter IV of the Data Privacy Act and we will act on them.

What happens to my work if I leave?

Your learning history is deleted with your account. Anonymous, aggregated figures that cannot be traced back to you may remain in reporting.
